Today, I'm in San Diego, California. And, to be honest the last time I was in China was in 1997... just when the dam was being built. I remember cruising up the river as a Westerner. (American) Stepping onto the shore of Chonquing, pre-theme parks... I knew that the water was rising, and where I stood would be underwater soon. No big deal, though, everybody would benefit soon!

You are right, it's not all about headlines. Let's just hope that the efforts they are making are not like the ones made for the Olympics (to put on a happy facade while the world is watching) and then return to 'standard operation' once the cameras are off. No offense, it happens in the US too.
The US can't boast the same on green roof implementation... as I said, the US could, and should implement wide spread green roof and solar power as well. The issue is, most of the buildings in.... More

Samuel.
In Shanghai alone, a single district is planning for 1 million square meters of green roofs... which US city could claim the same?
Also, keep in mind that while the US clearly needs to work on consumer based emissions, China needs to focus on system issues that the US simply does not have to content with.. and their investments in equipment and services should be taken seriously as their reductions in many areas will come much faster.

Posted By Samuel - Thu, Nov 05 2009 at 11:30 AM ESTWhat about Solar??
China makes everything, so why are they not implementing Solar?? (though I don't know how much sun they get through the smog, it couldn't hurt). They have enough building surface in Beijing to cover with panels and pull a tremendous amount of power....
Also, what about Green Roofs?? They filter rain water and air naturally, provide food that is sourced locally (not shipping it in from the country, emitting more CO2)
If China wants the world to view them as serious, they would.... More

China is already the biggest user of Solar Energy in the world using Vacuum tubes for heating water. They're all over the cities on rooftops everywhere. The problem with media in the west is that they tend to only report the bad things that happen in China.

That's understandable that money can make us autonomous. But how to act when one doesn't have cash? The one way only is to get the mortgage loans and secured loan.
