What does fall mean to me? Fall in Davis, Calif. means bike rides through groups of leaves beginning to pile up throughout the streets. Fall means no longer using the air conditioner. Fall means school has begun and sharing or borrowing textbooks instead of buying them. Fall means using old costumes for Halloween instead of going out and buying new ones. 

 

This fall there are so many ways for me to be green, even if the leaves are now turning brown (corny, I know). But, honestly, no matter the season of the year, it is easy to be environmentally conscious every day of the year. In Davis I can opt to go to the local farmers market or co-op, instead of buying groceries at the regular store. I can commit to staying in Davis for Halloween instead of driving far away. I will be sure to put on a blanket and sweatshirt before heading to turn the heater on and waste energy. Fall means that quality entertainment could be talking with friends and playing board games instead of blasting music at parties or going out to see a movie. Unfortunately, with the new season comes colder, rainier weather in Davis. However, I will not let the rain or cold stop me from being green and using my bike or walking. As the saying goes, you can’t wear white after Labor Day, but this season I am committed to make green always in style.
