CT Green Party politics

By Amy Blume, Local CorrespondentTue, Jul 28 2009 at 9:48 AM EST

The Connecticut Green Party is committed to ten key values of country-wide Green Party efforts, including ecological wisdom and environmental responsibility, social justice, grassroots democracy, non-violence, gender equality and respect for diversity.  Recently the Green Party of Connecticut has pursued lowering carbon emissions.  Members have also written articles and influenced political decisions concerning health care and the War in Iraq.

Help wanted

The Green Party is a forward thinking political channel, but is consistently looking for donations and volunteers.  With a more specific platform for Connecticut reform and additional financial assistance and volunteer support, the Green Party would be much more effective in furthering its goals.  Connecticut is becoming greener in electing its first Green Party candidates, but the Green Party of CT needs a clear plan in addition to its basic values to move forward in the future.

Upcoming elections

Two recent Green officers include Allan Brison's election as Alderman in New Haven and Jean de Smet of Windham.  Jean de Smet, upon election, wanted to make the Institute for Sustainable Energy, located in Windham, as prosperous, important, and communal as the mills once were to the town of Windham and state of Connecticut.  2009 shows ten candidates for election!  Look up the candidates in your area.
