Earth Day!

By:

Amy Blume
Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - 21:16
Earth Day, dating back to April 22, 1970, brings people together, with the mutual goal of protecting the planet.  People are celebrating Earth Day all over the world.  In Tokyo, Earth Day of 2009 had over 150,000 people walking through tents to a center stage.  Armenia is celebrating Earth Day, battling deforestation and pollution from garbage.  Atlanta, Ga. is hosting its first Green Apple Festival in honor of Earth Day.

The celebrations continue right here in Connecticut.  On April 22, 2009 there is a folk festival (Yale), a press conference about making composting more available (Niles Street Community Garden, Hartford), battery recycling (Hartford Public Library), and a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony at Patriots Park Forest Trail.  Wesleyan University and Connecticut College each plan on showing films specifically for Earth Day ("A Drop of Life" by Shalini Kantayya at Wesleyan and "FUEL" at Connecticut College).  Connecticut College also plans on having a special Earth Day dinner.  The celebration continues with a bundle of festivities on April 23rd!
