U.S. Postal Service

As part of the National Partnership for Environmental Priorities program, the EPA honored the Pacific Area of the U.S. Postal Service for its commitment to voluntarily replace all lead wheel weights for approximately 31,000 fleet delivery vehicles — removing more than 8,000 pounds of lead from its workplace operations and potentially, the environment.

Anahola Homesteaders Council

EPA presented its 2008 Environmental Justice Achievement Award to the Anahola Homesteaders Council for its work to improve environmental quality for the community of Anahola in Kauai. AHC’s efforts focus on improving the water quality of Anahola rivers and streams, addressing the needs for proper solid waste management and improving economic conditions for native Hawaiians by creating a community center.
