Nalco recieved the EPA's Greener Reaction Conditions Award for their development of 3D Trasar Technology. Nalco developed 3D Trasar technology to monitor the condition of cooling water, which saves water and energy, minimizes the use of water-treatment chemicals, and decreases environmental damage from discharged water.

ArcelorMittal USA, based in Chicago, has set a goal to reduce energy intensity in its U.S. operations by 6 percent over a three-year period. The U.S. Department of Energy awarded the company for its establishment of corporate energy management as an ongoing process that continues after initial reduction goals are achieved and becomes a company-wide, continuous commitment to energy reduction.
Safer Pest Control Project

The EPA presented the 2008 Environmental Justice Achievement Award to the Safer Pest Control Project (SPCP) for its work to reduce children’s pesticide exposure in childcare facilities. SPCP led an effort in Illinois to become the fifth state to require integrated pest management (IPM) in licensed childcare facilities via legislation passed in 2003.
