SPECIAL FEATURES:
Earth Week celebration
Monday, April 20, 2009 - 16:24
Happy earth week to all! At the University of Illinois, we decided that we needed more than 24 hours to celebrate the beauty, wonder, and absolute awesome celebration of Mother Nature. So we extended it to a full week of festivities.
Today we had a “recycled rhythms” concert showcase in our Union café. They jammed to the beat of their own recycled tires, drums, and sticks; it was a rocking good time.
Today we’re also premiering “The 11th Hour” in the Union. Narrated by the charming Leonardo DiCaprio, the film takes an inside look to help restore the planet through practical, everyday solutions. Check out the trailer.
This week we are having a water drinking contest outside on our quad. Do you think people can really tell the difference between bottled water and tap water? Personally, I think Dasani is a little over rated. Check back with the results of the contest later on.
Here at Illinois, we’re firm believers of movies being a great source for entertainment. We are premiering the documentary “Thirst” on Tuesday, and “Wall-E” outside on the quad Wednesday evening.
To finish off the week, we have free bike tune-ups and demonstrations (I’ll try to film that, and keep you updated) and multiple local professors speaking about global climate change, and recycling.
Ahh, the glories of earth week, let the fun begin!
Peace love joy
