If you love being outside by bike or foot and you've run out of ideas for easy-on-the-pocketbook, low-carbon outings, check out the trail system
of Fort Wayne. Stretching 61 miles, the trails offer scenic routes that connect landmarks, rivers and parks throughout the city and Allen County. In August, the 1.5 miles of trail near Lutheran Hospital will be finished — offering bikers, runners and walkers almost two more miles of trail.
If you're the competitive sort, check out Bicycle Indiana's Commuter Challenge
. You can register as an individual but if you belong to a bike club, your miles can count toward your club's miles. You log your miles weekly or daily and the top 5 mileage lots are posted weekly at the Bicycle Indiana website
Want to meet people who enjoy nature trails and bicycling? Attend the Fort Wayne community bike rides on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. The schedule for the community trails is on the Rivergreenway link to news and events
