In honor of Earth Week, my school is going green. As president of the Rivermont Collegiate Environmental Club (RCEC), I am holding various projects in order to spread awareness on various environmental topics from e-waste to idling through the environmental club. RCEC formed a great partnership with the Waste Commission of Scott County to provide free e-waste recycling for all of the students, teachers, and staff during Earth week!
In addition to collecting e-waste, we are also putting up "No Idling" signs on our school campus in order to reduce the amount of unnecessary vehicle emissions. Since idling also impacts the health of individuals through the toxic pollutants released, RCEC is saving the environment and the health of many people in the area. Just as RCEC is taking the initiative to encourage members in our community to be more eco-friendly, you can, too. As we celebrate the Earth this week, plant a tree, ride your bike, make a garden, recycling your e-waste, turn your key and be idle free — but whatever you do, remember the smallest actions can make the biggest difference for our planet.
