These businesses have been honored for their green initiatives by city, state or national environmental agencies.

EPA recognized the pollution reduction and energy efficiency qualities of a dry mill ethanol plant by presenting East Kansas Agri-Energy LLC with a 2008 Energy Star Combined Heat and Power Partnership Award. The ethanol plant set an industry record when construction was completed in only 18 months. 
The municipal wastewater treatment facility in Lawrence was selected by the EPA as the first place winner of the 2008 National Clean Water Act Recognition Awards.  The awards are intended to increase overall awareness for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.
The EPA honored Hutchinson with a pair of awards in recognition of the city's innovative efforts to remediate problems with its water supply and provide better drinking water to its residents. EPA presented city council representatives with the 2008 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Award and the 2008 Clean Water State Revolving Fund Award.
