This week we had our first Americans for an Informed Democracy
(AID) meeting at WKU and there were so many new faces. The turnout was absolutely overwhelming. We couldn't have been more pleased to see all of these kids wiggling in their seats as we discussed what projects we will tackle this semester. And the best news of all? A whole lot of them listed "sustainable food systems" as one of their passions! It looks like I'm going to have a lot more help on the farm than I projected. Our sustainable agriculture classes are revving up next week and I couldn't be more pumped.
In other news, Bowling Green is proud to welcome its very own community development house. A good friend and fellow activist, Greg Capillo, will be living there, polishing his organizing skills and providing a safe haven and meeting place for the socially conscious. I can't wait to learn more about this place. Thus far it sounds like Disneyland for activists! I'll be sure to let you know when I get the details.
I'm keeping myself busy with stirring up an awareness campaign for local and sustainable foods. I want to keep it fun and creative, a la people in vegetable costumes. What would you do?
Love from the sultry south,
