Louisville's green list
We are very lucky in Louisville to have a new publication that is a directory of Earth-friendly and sustainable businesses and providers. Their first issue was released in January, and it is published bi-monthly. The couple who started this project are Carole and Andy Wolak, who say that they wanted to create a comprehensive list of sustainable businesses, services and organizations to promote better care of the environment. The basic listings are free and open to anyone who is committed to sustainability. The publication is distributed in health food stores, restaurants, retail shops, holistic practioners' offices, community centers, public library branches, and churches with environmental groups. The publication has been so successful that they can't keep up with the demand. To view the list of where you can pick up the GreenList, go to www.greenlistlouisville.com.
As I looked through my first copy of the GreenList, I was amazed to see the number of groups listed. I saw names of many places that I knew were sustainable, but was fascinated to find many new places to visit. One such listing was Amazing Green Planet, a store in Westport Village that offers eco-friendly gifts and products from around the world. I stopped in to visit the new store, and was surprised at the sheer number of products they have. They offer devices that help with energy conservation, compost makers and rain barrels, recycled gifts, organic T-shirts, green baby toys and pet supplies, and many more that are too numerous to mention. The owners, Mary, Randy and Dustin Baron, are commited to providing products that are eco-friendly and are fair trade.
