5 reasons I'm happy it's 90 degrees outside
Besides the smell of sunscreen and seaside vacations, here are the top five reasons I cherish the summer months.

1. Lunch outdoors.
I can finally eat outside with my co-workers, instead of staying inside at my desk during the freezing cold winter. We keep sunscreen at our desk from May to September just in case we've all brought lunch from home and it's not raining.
2. Summer in the city.
Even the evenings are warm enough for skirts and shorts now. I love having picnic dinners (Fan Pier is a great spot) or catching live music (my two local favorites: Jamie Kent and the Options
and MaryLeigh and the Fauves
). I'm also planning to head to Seven Hills Park near Davis Square in Somerville for the SomerMovie Fest
, outdoor movies all summer! Warning: August 4th is a tearjerker.
3. Reading in my hammock.
All I need is my swing, my lemonade and some great books. I've read two of them in three days now! (Just finished "No Impact Man
," so I'm looking for more ideas.)
4. Harvesting the herbs I planted this spring.
I found an excellent recipe for a goat cheese, basil and tomato pasta dish — stay tuned for next week!
5. Boat rides.
Most of my favorite memories are by the sea — my first sailboat and kayak rides, visiting the Boston Harbor Islands with friends and watching fireworks on the dock near home. I hope to go on a whale watch trip
this summer just to make sure I take full advantage of this steamy summer weather!
