Revitalizing Long Island's green work forceBy Brittany Hsu, Local CorrespondentSat, Aug 15 2009 at 12:00 AM EST ![]() Since the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) chose BP Solar to provide 37 megawatts of photovoltaic power at Brookhaven Laboratory (a prominent lab in Upton, New York, that focuses on physics, environmental, and biological research), hundreds of clean energy jobs have been created for local solar workers. Green jobs include solar panel installers, energy consultants, energy auditors, architects, engineers, energy economics experts and so forth.
Due to the increase in environmental employment, schools offering sustainable energy education have increased enrollment in these courses. Stony Brook University's Southampton campus and Farmingdale State College have reported becoming "green campuses" with tons of different environmental majors on campus.
Nice to know that The Complete Idiot's Guide to Green Careers can be put to use now. The career opportunities of the future, indeed.
