Lake Luzerne

Now that summer is in full swing, many people (including myself) are dreaming about their ideal vacations. Where to go? What to do? But this year's vacation planning is different than any other because many people aren't sure if their pockets can handle a getaway after this traumatic year. That's where I come in. While globetrotting seems lucrative, staying close to home can be just as exciting. There are plenty of places throughout New York that provide tranquility and relaxation. And what better way to celebrate the environment than by camping and getting back to basics? One of my favorite places to do this is Lake Luzerne.

Located just outside of Lake George, Lake Luzerne offers great options for active people and nature lovers. Many of the campsites and cottages are located right on the water so they offer great views and access to water activities. I first visited Lake Luzerne when I was 18, and I've gone back every year since. One of my favorite things to do is take out a rowboat or a kayak and just soak up the sun on the lake. It leads into Lake George, so the opportunity for exploring rapids is there for risk takers.

If you ask me, there is no way to become bored when visiting Lake Luzerne. It is located in the heart of the Adirondacks so hiking is a must. You can either make your own path, or take advantage of some great trails, including those at High Falls Gorge. Either way, you're sure to see some breathtaking views, and it provides the perfect opportunity to reflect and take in Mother Nature.

Aside from all of that, what I like most about this trip is the fact that the spot is not very well-known. While Lake George is one of the most popular destinations on the East Coast, Lake Luzerne provides the same attractions and so much more, without the hustle and bustle. Visiting Lake Luzerne never gets old, and there is always something new to discover. So instead of spending yet another weekend poolside, I advise everyone to give Lake Luzerne a chance. I think you’ll like what you find.
