Green economy would grow jobs

As I sit here and try to fall alseep, I stumble upon an article: Duke University says that going green will "grow jobs in U.S." Even if you aren't a Duke fan, they have a very valid point. They conducted research specifically targeting how our economy will be better the greener we are and behave. The research said that the "nation's manufacturing sector could be a significant beneficiary of the green movement." Duke researchers investigated the value of technologies such as LED lighting and windows that would be considered "high performance."

People are needed in this process of implementing LED lighting and high performance windows. Because a high performance window contains many different parts, there is a great deal of labor to consider in installing and assembling it. People have to produce and create the glass for the window, as well as the frame.

As Duke researched the Durham area, they surprisingly found that the LED chips being produced in LED lighting gave the ability for the labor and work force to hire approximately 3,000 employees. This number quadrupled over the years due to the higher demand in greener and more energy-conserving products. According to The News & Observer, "North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and California are among the states poised to benefit most from a move toward a green economy. In particular, [the study] details one technology where this state could see a large benefit: super soil waste treatment. It's an evolving technology used to handle hog waste. Because North Carolina is the nation's second-largest hog producer, it is poised to gain from a shift."

The research that Duke provided could not give an exact number of jobs that would be open, but Barack Obama's lucky number of five million used during his campaign is completely doable. These five million jobs would boost our economy and allow people that were laid off in the past to work and provide for their families. Think, all of these jobs can be provided by becoming more eco-friendly and demanding energy conservation. To learn more, read the whole article. I found it very interesting! Take care and God bless.
