Views along the Blue Ridge Parkway are breathtakingly spectacular. In the fall, hotels and bed & breakfasts fill quickly with reservations for visitors who want to see the leaves changing colors. You can enjoy the parkway from your car, but there are plenty of stops along the way for photos, hikes and picnics. If you want to be more eco-minded, try taking in the sites as a cyclist.
The parkway (which North Carolina shares with Virginia) originally started and ended in High Country. Be on the lookout for wildlife in this area. In addition to the deer and wild turkey you may see, this section of the parkway is home to endangered birds such as the peregrine falcon.
