Strouds Run State Park Location: Athens, Ohio
True, I am a bit biased toward Strouds due to my close proximity to the park while I'm attending school at Ohio University. However, if you are an OU student, Strouds is a great weekend escape. It's approximately 10 miles from campus and its 2,606 acres provide a whole host of activities. Dow Lake is the center of the park where you can rent canoes and kayaks relatively cheaply by the hour. There are also volleyball nets and a swimming area to cool off when the mercury in your thermometer starts to rise. Fishing and hunting are allowed during season and there are also several hiking and bike trails. There's even a poker tournament in which you have to walk the trails to gather cards for your hand! More of a chilly weather person? Come down to Strouds Run for sledding and cross-country skiing! Check out their website and these pictures, courtesy of John Halley from the Athens Messenger:
