A poem: The Earth is Crying
We can not ignore our earth's cries any longer.

By:

Maria Boland
Thursday, December 31, 2009 - 11:20
I felt the urge to write this poem in honor of Mother Earth — for all that she has done for us, and how we fail to recognize how valuable and fragile she is. Humans have come to the conclusion that they are in control of this planet, on which they exploit natural resources, pollute the oceans and skies, and claim to own anything that could be turned into a dollar sign.

I have come to believe that our Mother Earth is sick, and as her soul continues to weaken from our careless actions, she is slowly dying. It is up to all of us to make an effort to change the outcome that we have set for the environment and its natural inhabitants by changing the easier thing to do with the right thing to do. Also attached to this post is the music video "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson, in which a realistic picture is painted of what we have done to the world and how by working together, we can reverse our effects for the better.

I used to get lost
While watching the starry sky,
Until clouds of gas covered over
And made the heavens cry.

I used to go for long walks
In the forest to stay fit,
Until the trees were flattened and sold;
Couldn't ignore it.

I used to love to stare
Hours on end into the ocean,
Until oil tanks and garbage hulls
Turned waters into toxic potion.

I used to study and observe
The wild animal kingdom,
Until dealers sold them into captivity
Getting rich while giving their freedom.

I used to be so proud
Of this planet we live on,
Until nature was ignored
And soon she will be gone.

I used to believe in such things
Like Love, Peace, and Hope,
But now I wouldn't find the three
Together if tied with a rope.

I used to dream of a time
Where all people were at peace,
Seems the more people try
The more hatred increase.

People don't realize what they got,
That's for sure,
Till their completely surrounded by extinction,
They'll be no more.
