Hey everyone! I haven't been able to post because I am getting ready for my Envirothon competiton. I'm so excited!
The Envirothon is a club that studies:
plus a special topic each year. This year's special topic is biodiversity.
Schools compete in five-person teams and each team is required to complete four hands-on tests (on the four subjects above), one written test (on the special topic), and one oral presentation on a problem focusing on the special topic. This year we have to create a restoration plan for the Ninigret Wildlife Refuge in Charlestown, RI.
For the last two years, my team has won for the state and was able to move on to the national competition hosted by Canon Camera. Asheville, N.C. (coincidentally the town where my college is) will host the Envirothon this year. The top five teams to win at nationals receive scholarship money and great Canon prizes!
Currently, my team and I are cramming last minute info and trying to perfect our oral presentation. In my final year competing, all I can say is good luck to all the teams and wish me luck! I'll post later with an update!
The competiton is on May 21 and will be held at Goddard Park. Check out www.envirothon.org/
for more info.
