Fri, Mar 20 2009 at 12:02 PM EST
The City of San Benito, Texas has received the Texas Renewable Energy Project of the Year Award, for the solar array that will help power its new water treatment plant. The San Benito plant will be able to filter up to six million gallons of water a day, with the photovoltaic system providing about 10 percent of the power used to filter water at the plant. The 45- kilowatt project is the largest of its kind on the Texas-Mexico border.
Acequia
Fri, Mar 20 2009 at 11:57 AM EST
The EPA recognized Acequia as a 2008 Water Efficiency Leader for exceeding expectations in water management. Acequia surpassed its own five-year goals of sustaining measured water reductions: from 20 percent to 54 percent across nearly 70 commercial properties. Acequia reduced water use by measuring a consumption baseline for all its properties and using this data to establish water management best practices.
