Houston, the largest city, is one of only five U.S. cities with permanent professional resident companies in all of the major performing arts disciplines, and Texas boasts two NFL teams, two MLB teams, three NBA teams, an NHL team and outstanding college sports teams. As the second-largest state, its size makes climatic classification difficult; it's geographic diversity includes desert valleys, wooded mountain slopes and desert grasslands, areas of gently rolling hills, prairies and even a coastal region.
