INTREPID MOUNTAINEERS: Braving thin air and blazing foliage. (Photo: Glenn Fay)
"See Vermont" is found on Vermont car license plates for a reason. There is lots to see that will take you back to another time and place. And there is plenty of spectacular nature to see. So we decided to pay a visit to Mount Mansfield with a hike up the Sunset Ridge Trail, to the summit on the chin just for the day. The five-hour hike was nothing short of breathtaking.
The ancient, glacially-tempered slopes and ridges are other-worldly. Colors look surreal.
The Champlain Valley below was a warm mat of orange, with the crown jewel, Lake Champlain, in the background. I think we need to do this more often.
