Anacostia Park, one of D.C.'s most important and largest recreational areas, is a U.S. National Park of more than 1,200 acres. In addition to regular park offerings, the park is large enough to boast an 18-hole golf course and its location on the Anacostia River offers great boating opportunities. Poplar Point, one area of the park, serves as an important natural area — providing an essential habitat for a wide array of plant and animal species. Its meadows and wildflowers attract butterflies every summer.
