This Friday for Earth Day, my fellow AmeriCorps members and I will be at our habitat restoration site in the Beacon Hill neighborhood in Seattle. At our site, Maple School Natural Area, we'll be planting some new plants — mainly ground cover — in a section of the park that was once overtaken by blackberry. Planting in this section will make sure the ground isn't exposed, reduce erosion and make sure that no new invasive species take hold.

If you want to explore Seattle's best-kept secret, come to our Earth Day event.

When: Friday, April 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Maple School Natural Area in Beacon Hill, 1901 S. Lucile St.
What: Planting native plant species and pulling invasive plants. And celebrating Earth Day!
