Online job sites have been around for more than a decade. As these sites became more popular, many companies branched out into specific niche markets – IT jobs, six figure jobs, green jobs, etc. Yesterday, CareerBuilder announced that they have launched their own niche site – GoingGreenJobs.com

The timing is great. Green jobs are receiving funding from the Recovery Act through the Green Jobs Act of 2007 and green economy information is making the news on a daily basis. GoingGreenJobs.com has the reputation and resources of CareerBuilder, which will help ensure the site’s success.

Jason Ferrar, vice president of corporate marketing at Career Builder, reports "One-in-10 employers say they have added green jobs in the last 12 months. Goinggreenjobs.com will enable employers the ability to specifically target their environmentally friendly positions to an audience that is actively seeking employment in the green field." Source: CareerBuilder

The new website offers your traditional job search feature but also has a list of several popular searches listed on the main page. This is great for individuals who aren’t sure exactly what type of position they are interested in.

GoingGreenJobs.com also features a green salary calculator, a list of popular green companies, related green industries, and a news feed from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) office.

Although the site is new, there are already thousands of jobs listed. A search for “environmental jobs” returned nearly 7,000 jobs in the United States including more than 700 in California, more than 600 in Texas and nearly 500 in Florida.

On a related note, MNN has a green jobs channel and each week, a new green job is featured. This feature goes beyond a typical job listing and provides more in-depth information about the position or industry. In the past, a few interesting green jobs have been featured: handbag model, banana buyer and a grassroots director for Greenpeace.
