Greenbuild 2010 kicks off on November 17 in Chicago, Illinois. Although it is somewhat difficult to prepare for the changing weather in November in Chicago, you can start your conference planning now.
Although Greenbuild 2010 officially runs from November 17-19, 2010, related activities begin on November 15. If you are planning on attending any of the full or half-day LEED workshops then you should plan on arriving in Chicago on Sunday evening.
This year’s LEED workshops cover a variety of topics for beginners through experts. A half-day LEED 101: Green Building Basics and LEED workshop will be offered on Monday afternoon and then again on Friday afternoon. On the opposite end of the green building experience spectrum is Homes 401: Green Rater Training. The Green Rater Training program is a two-day workshop that begins on November 15.
If you aren’t planning to attend a LEED workshop but are interested in attending one of the specialty forums, you’ll need to be onsite and ready to go early Tuesday morning, November 16. This year’s summits and specialty forums include an Affordable Housing Summit, the International Forum, USGBC Chapter Forums, a Green Jobs Summit and the Green Building Jobs Fair.
On Wednesday the full conference officially kicks off with the opening plenary, a massive exhibit hall and both onsite and off-site education sessions. The conference continues on Thursday with the usual offerings as well as a Residential Summit and even a lunchtime yoga class. The exhibit hall will close on Thursday evening so make sure you’ve visited all of the vendors before you turn in for the night.
Although the conference officially comes to an end with the closing plenary at 10:30 am on Friday, November 19, the fun doesn’t stop there. After HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan and Paul Hawken deliver the closing keynote address, Greenbuild attendees can still take part in education provider workshops, one of this year’s half-day green building tour or one of several outdoor experiences.
The green building tours and outdoor experiences continue on Sunday with both half and full day tours available as well as a Chicago bike tour or a skyscrapers walking tour.
As you can see Greenbuild 2010 goes beyond the official November 17-19 conference dates. To get the most out of your Greenbuild experience, start planning now. A three-day conference can quickly turn into a week long green building educational experience.
