In 2009, the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) dedicated September 23 to green building awareness by proclaiming it World Green Building Day. This year the WorldGBC is expanding its celebration and today marks the start of the first ever World Green Building Week.

While green building is a growing trend here in the United States, countries across the world are joining the green building revolution. During the week, Green Building Councils from across the world will be hosting green building awareness events.

The Australian Green Building Council has several events planned including a networking event for the visiting Chinese green building delegation today and a Green Tie Gala in Sydney on Wednesday. The organization is also working with local businesses to offer tours of green buildings in the country. These tours can help raise awareness about the importance of green building among business owners as well as the general public.

Sustainable Buildings Canada will be hosting the sixth annual Green Building Festival in Toronto from September 22-25. The WorldGBC and the Canada Green Building Council will be participating in this three-day event that features green building experts, training opportunities, an architecture and design expo, and tours of local green buildings.

Several countries spread throughout the world are participating in World Green Building Week including Bulgaria, Colombia, Indonesia, Morocco, Philippines, Poland, Russia, and Singapore.
