Blue is the new green. The world is dealing with a water crisis – specifically a clean water crisis. When you and I walk into our kitchen and turn on the tap, we are taking something for granted – easy access to clean water. During the month of September, charity: water is focused on not only raising awareness about the importance of clean water but on raising funds to bring clean water to the Central African Republic (C.A.R.).

The charity: water organization was founded in 2006 and in the past four years their work has brought clean water to more than one million people in 17 countries. This year’s fundraising goal is to raise $1.7 million to help the Bayaka Pygmies have access to clean and safe drinking water. According to charity: water, half of the residents of the C.A.R. don’t see their 40th birthday and often times a lack of clean and safe drinking water is cited as the cause for these early deaths.

While the organization already has some big names behind it including Alyssa Milano, Jessica Stroup for 90210, and Matt Hasselbeck from the Seattle Seahawks, it also needs our help to achieve this $1.7 million fundraising goal. There are three ways that we can help: starting our own campaign and donating at mycharitywater.org, watching the video I’ve embedded here and sharing it with your friends, and visiting the charity: water Facebook page.

All of the money raised, yes 100 percent of the funds gathered during this month-long campaign, will go directly to sustainable water projects. These projects are going to bring ready access to clean and safe drinking water to approximately 85,000 residents of the C.A.R.

For more information about the campaign, visit the charity: water September 2010 website.
