Greensboro, North Carolina is home to the first LEED Platinum hotel, the Proximity Hotel. The building scored 55 out of a possible 69 points on the LEED new construction (LEED-NC) checklist. A building must garner a minimum of 52 points to receive platinum certification, the US Green Building Council’s highest green building certification level.
The LEED-NC scorecard shows that the hotel received 12/14 points in the sustainable sites section, 4/5 in water efficiency, 16/17 in energy and atmosphere, 6/13 in materials and resources, 12/15 in indoor environmental quality and 5/5 in the innovation in design section.The hotel opened its doors in November 2007 and received its LEED Platinum certification in October of 2008. In addition to the LEED Platinum rating, the hotel has also received the AAA Four Diamond Award.
