Watch: Building the 21st century grid
A panel of experts discussed the Obama administration's plan for upgrading the nation's electric grid.

A panel of experts gathered in Washington, D.C. on Monday to discuss the Obama administration’s plans for building a 21st century grid. The plan will help modernize the electric grid, boost the nation’s clean energy economy and help create new green jobs.
The discussion followed a series of initiatives announced earlier in the day. These public and private sector initiatives include:
- $250 million in loans for smart-grid technology deployment
- Commitments by the Department of Energy that will allow customers more access to their own energy information
- The formation of the Renewable Energy Rapid Response Team to help advance the nation’s clean energy economy in a more organized and timely fashion
