President Obama’s summer recovery speeches continued last week as he stopped by Smith Electric Vehicles in Kansas City, Missouri. During his speech, Obama again focused on the importance of green jobs in helping bounce out of the unemployment crisis. He also focused on the electric vehicle technology in place at Smith Electric Vehicles.
Smith Electric Vehicles received a $32 million grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The company combined this with $36 million in private funding and will build up to 500 all-electric trucks. This process has allowed the company to hire 50 employees and ultimately the project will create over 200 direct and indirect jobs.
