Ric Kraszewski has had a few careers. His latest incarnation is chip purveyor. A surf trip to Baja, Calif., 17 years ago became the inspiration for the ideal snack food. After much trial and error, he and his partners arrived at a winning formula for Whale Tails Chips — a fin-shaped, baked, organic and gluten-free corn chip that allows you to get your snack on without the worry. The company went into full production in 2007. Presently, Kraszewski divides his time between working the ticket desk for Alaska Airlines and working the phones for his small company and finding retail slots for his chips at West Coast Whole Foods outlets. He even makes personal deliveries to local supermarkets. Perhaps best of all, 10 percent of the proceeds go to the Wyland Foundation to promote greater ocean awareness.
