Green Workplace

It's All Possible in Dens Time

Content provided by Georgia-Pacific

Four Advantages for Green Building with Dens™ Brand Gypsum Panels

Dens performs. Dens™ Brand gypsum panels perform better than traditional wallboards when exposed to moisture. Durability is inherently sustainable – and can often deliver points toward LEED green building ratings. Our products perform under normal circumstances and under unusually demanding conditions. Barry Reid, product development manager at Georgia-Pacific Gypsum calls it sustainigation -- in other words, taking sustainable products and mitigating or minimizing extraordinary challenges that may occur during and after the construction process. As a result, buildings are more durable, efficient, potentially have better indoor air quality, and are constructed to help survive natural disasters and life’s little disasters.

Dens is low-emitting. Several Dens panels are certified by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute or CHPS-Collaborative for High Performing Schools as low-emitting materials. Low-emitting products mean better building indoor air quality for the long-term benefit of building owners and inhabitants.

Dens is mold-resistant. With fiberglass mats replacing paper facings of regular wallboard and a moisture-resistant core, Dens™ gypsum panels are highly resistant to moisture and mold — another indoor-air quality concern. All Dens panels meet ASTM D 3273 for mold resistance and several also have received GREENGUARD’s listing for microbial resistance (ASTM D 6329-98.)

Dens is local. With 26 manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada, some plants are often within the 500 mile radius for LEED rating points under the Materials and Resources (MR) Credits for regional materials.
