If you participated in Buy Nothing Day on Friday you were definitely in the minority. Retailers posted above average Black Friday sales and that bit of news is pushing the stock market higher today. As Paul R. La Monica points out, the weekend sales numbers aren’t exactly indicative of a recovering economy. Personal savings rates are declining and that means that many shoppers are tapping into their savings to fund their holiday purchases.
