When times get tough, you need to get tougher. In this case, Americans are getting tough on their grocery bill and focusing on reducing it to have more money to spend on other budget categories. One way to reduce your grocery budget is to use coupons, and Atlanta residents have perfected the art of couponing. According to Coupons.com, the city of Atlanta is the most frugal city in the nation.

Although Atlanta topped the most frugal city list in 2009, coupon use by city residents almost doubled in 2010. In 2009, Coupons.com users in the city printed out about $531 in coupons. This figure jumped to about $1,000 in 2010. Atlanta also topped the Coupons.com Top 20 Most On-the-Go Frugal Coupon list by taking advantage of the Coupons.com apps available on most smartphones. The savvy residents of Atlanta know how to put coupons to good use and stretch their grocery budget better than residents of any other city.

Tampa, Fla., came in as the number two most frugal city in the nation with an average of $863 in coupon savings during 2010, quite a big difference from the average savings in Atlanta. The entire list follows:
