Amex cardholders, did you know you can sync your American Express card with your Twitter account? Until I saw an advertisement on television, I didn’t even know this was possible. Evidently, Amex cardholders can sync their accounts with Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare and receive special savings offers at select merchants.

 

The offer redemption process differs slightly with each social network, but Twitter seems to be the most social of all of the Sync programs. Once an Amex cardholder syncs her account with Twitter, she can browse offers using the American Express “Favorites” tab or by watching for special tweets coming from Amex and its Sync partners.

 

If an Amex cardholder wants to take advantage of a special money saving offer, he will need to post a tweet and include the special hashtag associated with that offer. American Express will follow up with an @ reply to confirm enrollment in that offer. Amex will also follow up with replies to remind the cardholder of enrollment in the offer as well as to notify participants of an expiring offer.

 

To redeem the offer, the entire purchase must be paid for using the synced American Express card and the savings will be refunded via a statement credit about three to five days after the qualifying purchase was made.

 

Honestly, this sounds like a lot of work to save a few dollars, and the whole public aspect of the entire process is a little off-putting. I consider myself to be an early adopter when it comes to technology, but I’m going to take the wait-and-see approach with Sync from American Express.
