CNN’s Poppy Harlow sat down with Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent
at the 2013 Clinton Global Intiative annual meeting to discuss social issues. Harlow asked Kent what role businesses should play in social issues, specifically mentioning Howard Schulz’s decision to ask customers to keep their guns out of Starbucks stores
. Kent responded that businesses have the “responsibility to be part of the solution for large societal issues.”
Kent explained that government agencies, alone, couldn’t solve social issues. Neither could NGOs, educational institutions or businesses. Instead, all these groups need to work together, calling the 21st century the “century of the power of partnerships.”
