I love the Cox Conserves Heroes program – members of the public in participating communities can nominate an eco-hero for recognition while helping out an environmental nonprofit organization at the same time. Imagine my delight when I saw today’s announcement that the Cox Conserves Heroes program has expanded to my home state – Arizona.

If you know an environmental champion please head on over to the Cox7.com website and nominate her for the Arizona Cox Conserves Heroes program. Nominations will be accepted through November 21, 2011 with the online public voting period opening up in January 2012.

Nominees must live within one of the state’s Cox service areas, which include the metro Phoenix area as well as portions of Southern Arizona including Bisbee, Casa Grande, Douglas, Sierra Vista and Tucson.

Environmental advocates that work on a variety of eco-focused projects, including cleaning up or refurbishing public spaces, water conservation projects and educational outreach programs are eligible for nomination.

The first annual Arizona Cox Conserves Heroes program, which is sponsored by Cox Communications and The Trust for Public Land (TPL), will recognize two local heroes and donate a total of $14,000 to area nonprofit organizations.
