Robert J. Shiller is an economics professor at Yale University and the author of a new book, Finance and the Good Society. In this CNN interview, Shiller explains that while the Occupy Wall Street movement has an important message, the change that the movement wants to see needs to come from within the large financial institutions. For example, the securitization of mortgages, which is at the base of the nation’s housing crisis today, is a good idea but it was done the wrong way. Securitization brings home mortgages to more American families but the way that the nation’s financial institutions went about the process was wrong.
