There are zero waste households and even zero waste businesses but in a few years we might see a zero waste resort town. Steamboat Springs, Colorado is working towards becoming a waste-free community by 2014. The community has implemented one rather interesting way to help meet this goal – trash attendants. Visitors to the area aren’t able to throw away or recycle their own goods, instead lunch trays and the like are delivered to a knowledgeable trash attendant. The employee then sorts the items into bins for compostables, recyclables and a little bin for true waste.
