Salons and spas

Most of us don’t automatically think green when it comes to getting our hair styled or indulging in a massage, but we should. Many beauty products are filled with hazardous chemicals, and many spas and salons don’t embrace green measures like energy-efficiency and recycling. Still, some are heading in that direction. To find a spa that uses organic beauty products and maintains an eco-friendly facility, try Green Spa Network, Spa Index’s Green Spa Guide or GoGreenSalon. Organic Spa Magazine’s Top 10 Green Spas and Resorts list also offers some promising picks. Note: there aren’t any spa/salon eco-certifications, so be sure to check out all sustainability claims and ask plenty of questions.
