The U.S. military is about as far from green as you can get. It's a massive organization with a carbon footprint that rivals many large nations. The military has hundreds of thousands of vehicles, ships, planes, submarines and tanks that burn through enough fuel to easily make it the largest buyer of petroleum products in the world. Its environmental record going back over the decades has been pretty grim, but the military recognizes that the world is changing and that cheap oil may not always be available, even at the end of a gun barrel.
