The Military does not make wars, the civilian government does that.

Realistically speaking, the only part of the US economy that works is the military-industrial complex and that is not likely to change. However, it is hard to think of ordinance as being "green" although they do remove humans who are considered to be undesirables from the planet.

One thing you have to remember, Cost is never an issue with the US governement. Go LEED, up front cost, time, time it takes for a payback isnt an issue. being Green, means, lots of money up front.
More power on less oil
The U.S. military is about as far from green as you can get. It's a massive organization with a carbon footprint that rivals many large nations. The military has hundreds of thousands of vehicles, ships, planes, tanks and submarines that burn through enough fuel to make it the largest buyer of petroleum products in the world. Its environmental record has been grim, but even the military recognizes that times are changing and that cheap oil may not always be available.
Change doesn't come quickly in the military (or in most large, established institutions), but a few mavericks inside are pushing greener practices. Whether they think it's the right thing to do or they're being pragmatic in the face of uncertain oil markets, the results are small steps toward a greener military.
