In 2009, the League of American Bicyclists named the University of Wisconsin-Madison a silver award winner in its Bicycle Friendly Business program. The university was recognized for its commitment to providing quality facilities and infrastructure for bike riders. The campus has more than 9,000 bike parking spots, and wide, well-lit bike paths or lanes can be found everywhere.
New students are invited on get-to-know-campus rides, and public service announcements regularly extol the virtues of safe riding habits. The city of Madison celebrates the bike every year with its Bike To Work Week, a celebration the school is more than happy to encourage its faculty and staff to participate in.
