Next time you're stuck in traffic, think trains. Not commuter trains, freight trains. Each Norfolk Southern train can take up to 300 truckloads of freight off our congested highways, helping to reduce pollution, fuel use and demand for foreign oil. At Norfolk Southern, we're recycling, adopting clean technologies, and working with public agencies and other partners to promote environmental stewardship.
According to a study by transportation expert Wendell Cox, if the U.S diverted just 25% of the freight now carried by trucks to rail, by the year 2026 we will save a remarkable amount of fuel, streamline highway congestion, and reduce the air pollution all around us.
