Footballers and soccer fans aren’t the only ones gearing up for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. All across the country, business people, including local prostitutes, are preparing themselves for what’s sure to be a huge influx of English-speaking tourists come June 2014.

CNN reports that prostitutes in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte have been lining up this week for free English classes, offered by the regional Association of Prostitution. The classes, which will be held in March of this year, are expected to attract at least 300 women from the prostitution business, which is legal in Brazil.

In a conversation with CNN, the president of Belo Horizonte’s Association of Prostitution, Cida Vieira, said that many private-sector businesses across Brazil are preparing their workers for the Cup, and seeing as prostitution is a legitimate business in Brazil, she said she believes her association should do the same.

Vieira also said that English would be an important asset for prostitutes in negotiating prices and, of course, during other industry-specific transactions.

well, good for them. prostitution is the oldest job in the history of man so i always wondered why it's illegal in the US (or anywhere else), especially since being paid to make porn is not. what's really the difference between the two?

First rule of marketing: know your customers and speak their language. A great new book/ebook available worldwide, "What Foreigners Need To Know About America From A To Z: How to understand crazy American culture, people, government, business, language and more,” helps foreigners benefit from a better understanding, including our language. Endorsed by ambassadors, educators, and editors, it even has chapters on English grammar and speech that identify the key problems common to foreigners (and
.... More
Americans!) and how they can polish their communication skills. Why is English such a monster to learn? Here's an excerpt from the book: "As you may know, English grammar rules are full of generalities and the generalities are full of exceptions. Even the exceptions have exceptions. This is why English is one of the most difficult languages to master." The book (and e-book) is filled with tips anyone can use to polish their speech and understand the key basics of English. Probably the number one problem foreigners have is slowing down when speaking English, followed by pronouncing consonants. As the book points out, foreigners may think they know English but in many cases they have difficulty communicating to Western ears because of the common problems most have. www.AmericaAtoZ.com
