Ted Turner is awesome. Kudos to your # 1 pick.
However, Al Gore? He has no place on this list. Also, where is Aldo Leopold, the father of conservation? Throw some props to the conservation crowd, because those license revenues are the driving force in saving countless species and habitats.

Mr Dykstra, I do think yours is one of the best MNN columns but, aren't we having too many lists lately? book lists, heroes lists. Far too many I fear. Besides, this one in particular has, basically, the usual (20th centuryish) suspects. Aren't there more interesting subjects to cover?

"He’s also become a target for relentless personal attack from those who have nurtured the unfortunate idea that attacking Al Gore and denying the science of climate change is somehow an act of patriotism." - Al Gore is attacked because of the nonsense he puts forth. His Inconvenient Truth has already been exposed for what it is and that is partly false. Thanks to a parent with the sense not to go along, a judge in the UK ordered a correction to the movie if it's played in the school system..... More
