A green dream home lands in America's first colony

For those who enjoy a good green home giveaway (and really, who doesn't?), here’s some welcome news: the HGTV Green Home 2010 is really taking shape and there’s a batch of photos to prove it.
This will be the third year that HGTV has built and given away a green dream home to a lucky individual. In 2008, the HGTV Green Home was in Hilton Head, S.C., and last year’s home was in Port St. Lucie, Fla. This year, the contest moves north to the town of Plymouth, Mass., (yes, that Plymouth, Mass.). The construction site is within Pinehills, a mega-sized, golf course-centric residential development that, when completed in 2014, will contain about 3,000 homes.
As Preston over at Jetson Green points out, precise details on the home are trickling out on HGTV Green Home central before the home reaches "showcase" status in April. So far, it’s been established that the home is built from green and sustainable materials and features low-water landscaping, a rainwater collection system, solar photovoltaics, soy-based spray foam insulation, EnergyStar roofing, Smart Sun efficient windows, and a stone masonry chimney built from reclaimed New England fieldstone.
I'm certainly liking what I see, particularly the striking three-story tower and the recycled oak wine barrel with spigot for rainwater collection. It seems that the HGTV team have done a bang-up job respecting the architectural traditions of America’s oldest colony — the whole affair looks pretty New England-y without being over-the-top — while integrating the best and brightest in green building techniques. And yes, it may be easy to discredit large-ish homes built specifically for a TV sweepstakes, but these thoughtfully designed and built homes are the real deal.

Wow, what a house! I really want it!
This house is magnificent. As soon as I heard about it I have entered to win it every day on HGTV. I always try to be aware of projects of this magnitude. I am actually trying to contact HGTV myself so I can do a video walk through for my website and maybe an interview.
