I think it would be a good idea to inform people how to turn off their engines if this situation occurs. My instinct would have been to turn off the car, but I was not aware that I needed to be in Neutral to do that! The Police officer in the story may have been able to save his families lives had he known!
And may I ask , if you turn off your engine in this manner, do you have access to your breaks? Do you use you emergency brake?

I think it's a firmware or software issue for the "undisclosed" Power steering veering surge. The EPS sensor I think is the cause. Please do a report on this unspoken issue long before the gas pedal.

This is scary! My car hasn't done anything this extreme but my '05 Prius tries to lurch forward from a complete standstill all the time, whenever it switches from fully electric to the gas engine while I'm sitting with my foot on the brake. It's not the same as the stories of extreme acceleration that I've read & heard recently, but it was very scary at first. The car suddenly revs up the idle and has significantly more power whenever the gas engine switches on so I have to be sure to.... More

It's real and I believe some kind of electronic glitch. I was nearly killed by sudden acceleration in my RAM 1500. Chrysler refused to take the incident seriously. Here is the story with graphics:

It makes me nervous knowing there are these time bombs out there, not just for the drivers like me, but other drivers too and pedestrians (I ended up on the

So is that why you cant use your cell phone on an airplane? Wow, scary.
Posted By Steve - Wed, Feb 03 2010 at 1:44 PM ESTWhat is your point?
I own a Camry and appreciate all the research and speculation into the reasons behind the acceleration issue. However, what was your point by mentioning the religion of the victims in one of the crashes? Were the Saylors Catholics, Baptists or what? You failed to provide that vital bit of info for their crash. How about the owner of the 2008 Camry LE? Knowing his/her religion would have truly enhanced your piece. Can you explain?

many times problems arise because there's something new in the environment that didn't exist in user testing, etc. This is an unknown to a car engineer...and I could see this being plausible. It's like designing an airplane but not thinking about the geese on the runway at La Guardia

Lifelong Jehovah's Witnesses dissident speaks out on JW belief system . A) They are at your door to recruit you for their watchtower society corporation, they will say that "we are just here to share a message from the Bible" this is deception right off. B) Their 'message' creed is a false Gospel that Jesus had his second coming in 1914.The problem with this is it's not just a cute fairy tale,Jesus warned of the false prophets who would claim "..look he is here in the wilderness,or see here.... Sudden acceleration: Electronic interference could be a cause
It amazes me that a State Highway Patrolman doesn't know how to stop a vehicle that is speeding out of control. I am sure he has been trained for such an issue. I am sure that there is a lot more to this then Toyota is willing to share.
